Transformation Exploration 2014
8 November 2014 (Saturday) – The Public Sector Transformation Division, Public Service Department (JPA) in collaboration with the Administrative and Diplomatic Officers Association (PPTD), INTAN and JPA Club organised a Transformation Exploration 2014 today, starting from PSD Putrajaya and ending at INTAN Bukit Kiara, Kuala Lumpur. The programme was based on a treasure hunt concept aiming to promote greater awareness of the public sector transformation agenda.
The event was officiated by YBhg. Tan Sri Mohamad Zabidi Zainal, Director-General of Public Service Malaysia who flagged off the exploration participants at 8.00 a.m. The programme attracted 65 teams that consist of 260 participants from various ministries/agencies. Among the participants were civil servants from various divisions in JPA and INTAN, Prime Minister’s Department, Tourism Malaysia, Putrajaya Corporation, Employees Provident Fund (EPF), Malaysian Palm Oil Board (MPOB), Perak State Secretariat Office, Yayasan Pembangunan Ekonomi Islam Malaysia (YAPEIM), Ministry of Works, Ministry of Women, Family & Community Development, Ministry of Human Resources, Ministry of Health, Ministry of International Trade and Industry, Ministry of Defence, Ministry of Rural and Regional Development, Ministry of Education, Ministry of Transport, Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Department of Broadcasting.
A rather interesting and unique aspect of this event was aside from overcoming the usual challenges and solving puzzles, participants were also given the opportunity to do some charity work by contributing to the needy. Every team contributed a five-kilogram pack of rice, one kilogram of cooking oil, one kilogram of sugar and a can of condensed milk. These items were then handed over to the PPTD to be distributed during its various charity programmes. At the end of the exploration, participants were also requested to provide input for public service transformation via the Ideas Hatch, a dedicated platform specifically created on the JPA’s portal for crowd sourcing of ideas.
Equipped with the right attitude as well as displaying excellent teamwork, team Potong Tang Corner from Department of Broadcasting took first place of the Transformation Exploration 2014. Teams 4 Carat from Hospital Selayang and Cryptic Hunt 2S from the Ministry of Transport secured second and third place respectively. The winning team received RM3,000 in cash while the second and second placed teams brought back home RM1,500 and RM1,000 respectively. YBhg. Dato’ Seri Dr. Sharifah Zarah Binti Syed Ahmad, Deputy Director-General of Public Service Malaysia (Development) graciously gave away the prizes to the winners including lucky draws with grand prizes such as mini i-Pad, LCD TV and smartphone.
All the participating teams displayed great tenacity and determination to win the exploration. The heavy downpour that started early in the morning failed to dampen their strong enthusiasm from completing the exploration hunt. The exploration goes a long way in challenging the participants’ creativity and knowledge under the theme of patriotism and celebrating the national language. The healthy competition only reflects the need for civil servants to provide their best in every endeavor that they do as part of the transformation process. This is truly profound in the public service transformation process which requires a corps of competitive, knowledgeable, credible, competent, innovative and productive civil servants.
