Medical/Travel Claims for Pensioners

1. Who is entitled to claim for medical benefit expenses?

Federal pensioners, eligible family members (husband or wife) and children under the age of 18 years old; or, if still in school, under the age of 21 years old; or children with mental or physical disabilities.

2. Are Statutory and Local Authority pensioners entitled to claim for medical benefit expenses?

Rules of applying for medical benefit expenses for eligible pensioners and dependents are subject to SECTION SR.2.1.1 Application For Medical Benefit Expenses. However, the application of such Service Circular to Statutory and Local Authorities is subject to acceptance by the respective authorities.

3. What are the medical benefits that can be claimed by federal public pensioners?

Supply of medicine, supply of medical equipment, kidney treatment, specialist treatment at private hospitals, emergency treatment at private hospitals, infertility treatment, treatment at IJN and treatment abroad.

4. How can I claim for the expenses for medicine / medical equipment supplies?

Pensioners must seek treatment and medical facilities at government hospitals/clinics and obtain a recommendation/confirmation by an Officer/Medical Specialist. The form that needs to be completed is Medical Form of 1/09 along with financial documents (treatment bills, receipts, invoices, quotations and so on).

5. What are the eligibility requirements for travel claims for medical treatment?

If a local medical officer confirms that a pensioner or his/her family requires treatment from medical officers elsewhere, he or she can claim the allowances that an officer in the service is entitled to for carrying out official duties as if he or she is on the way for official duties.
