In addition to the Director General of Public Service (DGPS), who is the pillar and head of Public Service Department (PSD), the second most important position and the personnel responsible for assisting in ensuring the vision and mission of the DGPS are translated into action is the Deputy Director General of Public Service or DDGPS. Based on records, the DDGPS post was created as early as the establishment of Malayan Establishment Office in 1934. At that time, the title of this post was Deputy of Malayan Establishment Officer. The title was changed to Deputy Federation Establishment Officer in 1954, Federal Establishment Officer (1959) and Deputy Principal Establishment Officer (1967). It was subsequently changed to Timbalan Ketua Pengarah Perkhidmatan Awam (Deputy Director General of Public Service) in 1968.
